Premiere of eight-part series using scripted drama and commentary by scholars and clergy of diverse traditions for a more complete, largely Christian but nontheological portrait of the life of Jesus; each episode shows Jesus from the point of view of someone pivotal in his life; in this episode, Joseph faces a test of faith when Mary tells him she is expecting a child who is the son of God; John the Baptist baptizes Jesus, starting his divine mission; 8 p.m. Monday on History.
